GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION OF A CV

General: First impressions are the best impressions. 90% of the impression is created on reading the CV. So make the best CV.

Style & Font: Use the latest styles of CV and use an easy to read font. Typed CV are out of fashion. Copy only on good quality white paper of A4 size. Examples of good fonts are Times New Roman, Universal, Tahoma and the font size should be 10 - 12

Name & Address: Mention your full name. Father's name need not be mentioned. Address should be complete with PIN code and telephone contact numbers. Mention ISD/Area codes. Make sure the name of the contact person in India / in the Gulf are mentioned along with the telephone numbers. Do give contact numbers for late night calls. You can specify the best time to call at each number.

Date of Birth: Mention date of birth. Do not mention age without date of birth. Ex: 21st June 1966 (34 years)

Religion: Has no relevance in CV. Employers are intelligent enough to gather the religion from the name itself. Profession has nothing to do with religion. So AVOID religion in CV.

Qualifications: Expand abbreviations. Ex: BE., PGDCA (Bachelor of Engineering, Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications). Write the full title of the degree/diploma. Mention the name of the institution/university and the period of study. Add any awards/special academic achievements. If one is a degree holder, there is no point in mentioning Secondary, Primary, Higher Secondary qualifications. Omit these.

Experience: This is the most relevant portion of the CV. Please include name of company/organization, year of experience with each employer, size of the company, job title, nature of assignment. Please provide one reference at each company, if possible. Start with latest employment history. Give full details of the jobs, products handled, achievements, special tasks etc., 60-70% of the CV should be reserved for experience.

Passport Details: Not required at the stage of short-listing. Only number can be mentioned; no need of issue date, place and expiry. Copy of passport need to be submitted at the time of interview.

Degrees/Diplomas/Testimonials: No need for copies to be sent unless testimonials relate to big projects or a great achievement or a high reward. If the advertisement calls for copies, of course you must enclose them.

Personal Details: Marital status, children, overseas driving license held, hobbies, references, etc., can be given briefly at the end of the CV.
